Meridian Chardonnay 2008

I think this will be the last archival post I transfer from Blogarhythms.  It was originally published in 2010.

This Meridian Chardonnay has the kind of flavor profile I look for.  Not that it’s the ONLY flavor profile I appreciate by any stretch of the imagination, but this combination hit the mark for me.

Vineyard:       Meridian
Varietal:          Chardonnay
Vintage:           2008
Appellation:  California
Price:               $11.99

Notes:     We’re talking nice mouthfuls of honey, butterscotch, toasty vanilla with what seemed a hint of nutmeg , plus plenty of fruit including a light pineapple and citrus beginning with a lemony flavor and finishing in a light grapefruit.  It has good acidity and will pair nicely with food.  But I just enjoyed sipping this very enjoyable selection from Meridian.

Meridian Cab ’07

In case anyone has doubts about my enthusiasm for vino, take a quick glance at this archival piece from 2010.  It was originally titled “Excited About Wine!”  lol

I can’t stop myself!  I am just so excited to have a place to share my thoughts about wine.  I hope folks reading this blog will 1) get something out of my posts and 2) share their thoughts on wines as well.   That said – here’s another one.

Vineyard:  Meridian
Wine:  Cabernet Sauvignon
Vintage:  2007
Appellation: California
Price:  $8.99

Notes:  The bouquet has plum, toasty vanilla and floral notes.  Flavors open with a nice attack of bright red fruit flavors – bing cherry, red currant, damson plum with vanilla and what I can only describe as “zucchini bread” in the finish.  Moderate tannins make this a drinkable wine now, but it certainly has enough backbone to do well with meals and to cellar some if you want.  With oxidation the fruit flavors deepen and smooth a bit to darker reds – plum and dark cherry.

Meridian Pinot Grigio ’09

Summer is here, so nice crisp white wines are what many of us will be looking for as we seek to cool off from the heat.  Thus, I tried the ’09 Pinot Grigio from Meridian.  The selection is just what the varietal should be – light and enjoyable.  A bit more fruity than the European style PGs, but that suits my palate just fine.

Vineyard:     Meridian Vineyards
Varietal:       Pinot Grigio
Vintage:       2009
Appellation: California
Price:          $8.99

Notes:     Meridian – a solid performer in my book – has done a good job with this Pinot Grigio.  It’s light with lime, peach and nectarine fruit flavors.  Nicely viscous for a PG but not in any way heavy.  There was also, I thought,  a sort of smoky spicy note on the finish that I couldn’t quite put my finger (or taste buds) on.  I liked it.
